San Ignacio Police Allow Interviews inside the Station

Chester Williams

Commissioner Chester Williams also spoke about what is being described as a media circus that played out inside the San Ignacio Police Station on Thursday – something he says is against protocol as the media is not given permission to interview detainees inside a police station. But Hartin gave an interview, even questioned an officer about why she was detained. ComPol Williams says that the officer in question will be dealt with.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Upon seeing the news last night on Channel Seven, I was extremely pissed. I immediately called the O.C. in San Ignacio and asked what happened because that ought not to have occurred. But again, I guess the aggressive nature of Channel Seven, they were able to infiltrate the police station and get their interview. But I cannot hold them accountable for what happened. I hold the police because the police ought to have taken every precaution to ensure that the media did not enter the station and even more so that they did not interview a person, a prisoner in police custody. That is a total violation of our protocols and the O.C. in San Ignacio has been directed to ensure that the sergeant who was on duty be dealt with in respect of that matter.”
