Belize-Cuba Commission presents report to P.M.
In other news from the capital, the Belize Cuba Mixed Commission ended its two-day session this afternoon. The members made their recommendations for continued technical assistance to the Prime Minister. He says Belize’s relations with Cuba, although relatively new, have been fruitful.
Said Musa, Prime Minister
“The level of economic and technical cooperation between the Governments of Belize and the Republic of Cuba and the recent establishment of our embassy at Havana demonstrate Belize’s recognition of Cuba as an intrinsic part of the Caribbean. Within a very short time this relationship has yielded tangible results. We are sincerely grateful for the assistance provided by the Republic of Cuba to Belize’s developmental priorities.”
Fifty-six Cuban doctors are now working in Belize and eighty-six Belizeans are on scholarship in Cuba. Seventy more scholarships will be added in the fall of 2000. The mixed commission reviewed the current technical cooperation programs in health, housing, agriculture, culture, trade and tourism.
