Female officers discuss Police Department issues
They may be working in a male dominated field but today Belize’s female police officers, which represent almost eleven percent of the department, got a chance to get together and compare notes. The workshop at the Police Training School in Belmopan included a review of the code of conduct, work performance and encouraged the officers to recommend solutions to problems they confront on a daily basis. Police Commissioner Hughington Williams urged the officers to set high standards for themselves both in public and private in order to gain respect. Minister of National Security Jorge Espat and Minister of Human Development Dolores Balderamos Garcia also attended the opening. Of the eight hundred twenty-two police officers in the department, there are ninety women. These include two superintendents, an assistant inspector and three sergeants.
