Milton Palacio debuts in NBA
For a good number of Belizean wives and girlfriends Tuesday night marked the beginning of an extended period of mourning. The reason? The opening of the U.S. professional basketball season will make them, in practical terms, widows for the next seven or so months. But what may make this season a little different from its predecessors is the addition of a very special player. News Five’s Stewart Krohn caught a brief glimpse of him last night.
If you tuned in to Tuesday night’s NBA game between the Vancouver Grizzlies and Portland Trailblazers, broadcast here on Five, you may have gotten the impression that the experience was a test of faith. And those who had the patience were indeed rewarded with a front row seat to history. For with the game already decided by twenty points in favor of Portland, late in the game Belize’s very own Milton Palacio, number five on your screen, entered the game for Vancouver. He handled the ball well, dishing off a few good passes to his teammates and one unfortunately to his opponent. In the end the former CARICOM MVP drove to the basket and at the buzzer scored what we all hope will be the first of many points in a successful NBA career.
The Grizzlies play again tonight, this time in LA against the Lakers and while we won’t have the game on Five, CBC Cable informs us that it will be on their Fox Sports Network on channel forty-six. Tip off is at nine thirty.
