Accident victim treated in Miami
In an update to last Wednesday night’s traffic accident at the intersection of St. Thomas, Princess Margaret Drive and St. Matthew’s Streets, News Five spoke to family members of eighteen-year old Duane Cano today to find out about his current condition. Cano was rushed by air ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on Thursday, October twenty-eighth with severe head injuries and a badly broken leg. That night he slipped into a coma but regained consciousness on Friday and opened his eyes for a short while. Cano has two blood clots in his brain, a fractured skull and doctors are working to try and save his leg which has become infected. His family says he is improving but not in the clear just yet. He is communicating through writing. One of his first questions was the condition of his friend and the driver of the car in last week’s accident, Omar Zelaya. Zelaya remains in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a stable condition. The Cano family says they would like to thank everyone who assisted after the accident.
