Suspect in jacking at mini mart remanded

Story PictureWhile the Court of Appeal had a full day, next door in Magistrates’ Court thirty-four year old Hubert Velasquez, also known as “Kid”, was remanded into custody for the next month and a half to await trial. Velasquez is accused of jacking three persons at K and S Mini Mart in January and is now facing three counts of Robbery, to which he pleaded not guilty today. But since the crime was committed with a firearm, bail was not an option. On January twentieth of this year Velasquez, along with another man, reportedly went into the mini mart and stole a total of one thousand three hundred and sixty-two dollars in cash from two customers and a point thirty-eight revolver and six rounds of ammunition from the security guard. Velasquez was not detained until March thirteenth and his partner in crime is still at large. While he is to return to court on April thirtieth, police say Velasquez is wanted in Dangriga for another robbery and a bench warrant was issued for him because he failed to show up to face even more charges in Orange Walk.
