Dancer Hezron Ellis: the Road to World of Dance
A twenty-four-year-old Corozal resident is on a journey of his lifetime to represent Belize on the World of Dance stage. If you are a fan of this performing art, you would know that dancers from across the world converge to compete against the best of the best in individual, duo and group presentations. There are several rounds of competition before performers even make it to the live auditions and live shows on NBC. Hezron Ellis is trying to make it to that spot. Tonight, he shares with News Five how he submitted a video he shot with his phone; somehow it got the attention of the producers and he is now in the running to advance. But to do so, he will also need your help.
Hezron Ellis, Dancer
“I started dancing about seven to eight years ago. I started dancing in Cayo. I live in Corozal, but because of my father, his job allows him to go around the country. So I started in Cayo to dance. From the moment I submitted my video to World of Dance, I didn’t believe that they would even view my content knowing that we are a small country and there are thousand other dancers that are trying to do the same thing that I am doing. But it has matured me in a way, for me to push harder, knowing that I see dancers that have been constantly posting and trying to get World of Dance’s attention. And I just happen to submit a video, World of Dance viewed it and they actually liked my video. For me, that was something huge because I have been watching that TV show for a while, when it started, and I saw a lot of dancing at a high level and I didn’t think that mine would match what they are asking for. At this moment, I am like, I would guess, a runner up. I am at the Top Dancer competition right now. But I am right there, where everyone would want to be. For me to reach the live show, I must get an amount of – I must have my fan base way up, I must have my views up. I must try to get as much shares, comments, you know. As a dancer I must keep pushing hard cause it is going to get tougher.”
