IDB offers internship as essay prize

A free computer and a good paying summer job sound too good to be true? If you are a college student and can put together a good essay, then those things can be just a few pages away. To celebrate its fortieth Anniversary, the Inter-American Development Bank is holding an essay competition under the theme, “The IDB, the road traveled and the path ahead.” IDB representative, Jose Teixeira says he wanted to give young Belizeans a chance to be involved in the country’s development through the IDB.

Jose Teixeira, IDB Representative

“We have not really had the time to promote the bank, you know. We have been just too busy with our projects and operation. So we recognized that the bank is not well known among the Belizeans and sometime you find out that we have one of our projects that are benefiting one group of people and they don’t know that it was the IDB. So the essay is a way to promote, hey, we are here, trying to assist Belize. That is the job and we need the support of everyone of you in this process.”

The competition is open to all tertiary level students. The essay, which should be no longer than five hundred words, should include two sections, the historical aspect of the bank both locally and internationally and suggest development areas you believe the bank should look into. The winner will receive a computer and participate in a two month summer internship which pays four thousand Belize dollars. For more information, contact William Neal at the Belize City IDB office. The competition deadline is December fifteenth.
