Lotto “winner” almost claims prize

Story Picture
It was supposed to be a normal lotto story… one lucky Belizean walking into the offices of the Tropical Gaming Company and walking out with thousands of dollars in winnings. Today News Five was there to find out what the latest winner, Modesto Rodriguez, would have done with the sixty-two thousand five hundred dollars he thought he had won over the weekend.

Modesto Rodriguez

“I feel very happy about it, because this is the very first time I get in luck like this so I feel very happy.”

Q: “And what will you do with the money?”

Modesto Rodriguez

“Well I think I will try build a house and my daughter have a land and I will build it there, right.”

But Modesto’s dream house won’t be built with any Lotto money, at least not from this weekend’s draw. When his numbers were double checked this afternoon — in his presence — Lotto officials discovered he only had four of the numbers right, and not five as he had originally reported. So instead of winning sixty-two big ones, he wound up with only one hundred and sixty-five small ones. But there’s still hope for someone, as the computer reveals that a winning ticket has been purchased. The lucky numbers are four, thirteen, eighteen, twenty and thirty-one. But please check your ticket numbers carefully before getting excited.
