Opposition says taxes should not be levied in the zone
The Leader of the Opposition wasn’t buying the package and took particular exception to the use of the term “fee”.
Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition, U.D.P.
“As far as all of us are concerned what is being done here is an imposition of a tax on the zone. For the Prime Minister to stand before this Honorable House and say it is a social fee and therefore the zone still retains its duty free status, is absolute nonsense and is an insult to the members of the House as well as all those who have invested in that zone and who are involved in the operation of the zone. Let us call a spade a spade, for God sake; this is the imposition of a tax!”
