It is the fourth year that the faculty and staff of the University College of Belize have set aside an entire week to interact with students and members of the larger community. On Wednesday News Five went up to the campus to see what was happening this year.

Dr. Martin Cuellar, Director of Student Enrollment

“This is a series of activities that we came up with a couple of years ago to increase traditions at the university. And also to take the opportunity to build the strength of the U.C.B. family between students, faculty and staff and also the bonds that we have with the community within which we work.”

The week includes activities like talk shows, a book launch, friendship service, and a U.C.B. Campus Day. Attendance was a little low at the Campus Day this year but those who came out had fun competing with classmates.

Gilroy Middleton Jr., Sports Coordinator, S.G.A./U.C.B.

“As opposed to past previous years, most students came out but it is still not a quarter of the student population. But they are enjoying themselves playing football, volleyball, high jump, sack race, lime and spoon and all of that.”

Besides the physical activity, the students got the chance to sample a variety of sweets. For those who want to give something back to the community Common Ground, a local AIDS center was trying to attract young volunteers to operate their hotline service.

U.C.B. Week culminated today with the annual International Food Fest. U.C.B.’s foreign students shared their culture, music and food.
