Belizeans invited to expo in Guatemala

Belizean businesses are being invited to come and observe a trade show in Guatemala at the end of the month in the hopes that when the next Interfer takes place, Belize will be ready to participate. A representative from the Guatemalan export commission met this week with the Belize Chamber of Commerce, the Belize Business Bureau and the Mayor of Belize City David Fonseca. Executive Director of COPEREX Edna Marroquin, says it is important for Belizean businesses to join forces with counterparts in other countries to tap into foreign markets.

“The idea is that the big countries, the regions like Europe, they see us like a region, Central America, like the Caribbean. They don’t see us as individual countries. So we have to create a big organization; we have to organize our business and we have to work to show these big countries our products in an organization. Because of this the permanent commission on exports in Guatemala is trying to hold this fair every two years and trying to offer to these countries our products.”
Interfer ’99 takes place on October thirty and thirty-one in Guatemala City. Belizean businesses interested in attending will have to provide their own air fare and hotel accommodations but for twenty-five US dollars they receive a pass to enter the fair and business meetings, transportation to the fairgrounds and tours of Guatemala City and Antigua.
