Police shoot suspect on city street
The internal affairs division of the Police Department is looking into an incident in Belize City in which a citizen was shot by police. The officers, who were in plain clothes, reported that around eight thirty Tuesday night they were walking through Constitution Park when they observed Curtis Flowers behaving in a suspicious manner. The officers say when they approached Flowers ran onto Banak Street and although they ordered him to stop he continued to run. They claim he then reached into one of his pockets and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and motioned towards the officers. One of them fired a shot in defense, hitting Flowers in the shoulder. The officers say they confiscated an imitation handgun at the scene and took the wounded man to the Karl Heusner Memorial. Flowers is from the village of Double Head Cabbage. The Police Department is looking into the matter to determine exactly what occurred.
