Guatemalan Murdered in Belmopan: Described as Hard-Working Area Resident

Police have detained at least two people for questioning following the murder of a Guatemalan resident of Belmopan. On Saturday morning, a passerby found the lifeless body of fifty-year-old Armando Cacao with a cut wound to the throat. He was last seen on Friday night, reportedly intoxicated, but those who knew Cacao described him as peaceful and harmless. Police are now trying to figure out why someone would want to take his life.

“We know that on Saturday Police responded to a scene on Guyana Street Belmopan where they found the lifeless body of fifty year old Armando Cacao with an apparent cut wound to the throat. Investigations in that area revealed that sometime around five thirty on the twenty third is when he was seen riding a bicycle in that area and was found by a passerby early Saturday, sometime around four thirty. We initially had two persons detained for questioning, and we hope that these persons could shed some light on what happened to Mr. Cacao.   Like I said, it is very sketchy and we took a while to locate someone we believe is his only relative in Belize.”

“I don’t see him as any trouble maker or anything like that. He just from work to home and that’s it. He wouldn’t have go and hurt anybody that I would have known for.  We couldn’t believe it. Because, when we got that news the police came early in the morning Sunday. They asked if Armando lived here. We told them yes. We wanted to know why. They said that he died.”

“He used to come to talk to me every day. He even left his cap right there. Of course I miss him. He would come and ask me what is there to eat. I would say that even beans with tortillas we could eat. So he would go and buy the tortillas and we would eat together inside. They shouldn’t have killed him because he is already old. I don’t know why they did that to him.”
