Maya Sites Images Back on B.T.B. Website

Evan Tillett

Images of Mayan archaeological sites that Belize Tourism Board removed from its website a couple of weeks ago have been put back up.  Chairman Tillett explained that the initial decision to remove the images stemmed from the Maya land rights case.

Evan Tillett, Chairman, Belize Tourism Board

“I think everybody knows that it had to do with the whole Maya Land Rights issue. We decided to err on the side of caution. And, we decided to take those things down to ensure that we did not put our country in a position to be sued. And, hence we decided to go that route and wait until there was clarity on the issue. There has been some clarity on the issue. And, as your rightfully said, those things are now back up on the site. And so, in my opinion it is done.”
