B.T.L. opens park in southside

While you may not be able to take that getaway this holiday weekend, those of us in Belize City can still enjoy some time with our family in a beautiful location next to the sea. It’s taken a few months to make sure everything was done right, but the finished product was worth the wait.
It is being described as the best southside park in Belize City. The B.T.L. Albert Park has been fitted with all the necessary equipment to bring enjoyment to the entire family.
Mark Espat, Area Representative, Albert Division
“Some months ago the Director of the House of Culture, Mrs. Lita Krohn and I talked about the idea of having more involvement on the grounds of what was the Government House. We thought that a community park would be good in this area especially since it has not been used for a very long time. So with the support of government and the Belize Telecommunications Limited and the community we have been able to get the park to where it is today, ready for opening.
We are hoping to come up with a list of activities where we will be able to have different functions here for the schools in the division as well as for families and children. And hopefully it can be used as well as some of the other parks in Belize City. We certainly think that it has turned out to be one of the nicer parks in the country.”
B.T.L., which is the park’s main sponsor, has already spent forty thousand dollars on the recreational facility.
Q: “Lisa why did B.T.L. decide to sponsor this project?”
Lisa Shoman, Chairman, B.T.L.
“Actually it was a direct request from Area Representative Mark Espat. He thought that this would be the perfect place to put a park. We had given him our commitment some time ago that we would be involved in doing something on the southside. When the location was found we decided immediately that this would be the perfect place to have the park because of the House of Culture being next door and also the beautiful location by the seaside. So we were more than happy to be participants when we were asked by Minister Espat.”
The B.T.L. Albert Park is open every day from five in the morning ’til twelve midnight.
If you are concerned about safety, the tourism police unit is based nearby on the grounds of the House of Culture.
