PBL Says 2006 MOU should be respected
We also spoke to C.E.O. at the Port of Belize Limited, Andy Lane, who faults the Government of Belize for turning a blind eye to the 2006 M.O.U. with Toledo Enterprises.
Andy Lane, CEO, Port of Belize Limited
“In my opinion, BSI/ ASR has done nothing wrong. What has been done wrong is that there was an MOU in place since 2006 that was signed between the Government of Belize and Toledo Enterprises, the owner of Big Creek Port. And, that document clearly says the owner of Big Creek is not licensed or permitted to handle dry cargo volumes which are presently handled in the North. And I think, it is a wrong decision by the Government to just turn a blind eye to that and say, we don’t respect that MOU, we don’t honor that MOU that we signed. And, it has Said Musa’s signature on it. And of course, he is not the Prime Minster anymore. But, this thing passes from government to government. And, you have what was left to you by the previous government. I don’t think it is right that you just turn around and say, you don’t respect that MOU anymore, and in the very next sentence remind me that I have an MOU with the unions that I am expected to respect.”
