Payments to Former SPTC Employees on the Way
For months now, there has been a battle between former employees of the San Pedro Town Council and the new municipal administration. The ex-employees have not been paid their severance packages mandated by law. But the crux of the matter, according to Mayor Wally Nunez, is whether they are to be paid for the amounts cut from their salary during the pandemic. Mayor Nunez says the council has gotten legal advice and is now working with the Labour Department to determine the correct amount that is to be paid to the former employees.

“No payments have been made. We did have two legal opinions which were basically telling us that we have to make an arrangement with them and we also have another legal opinion, which was recent, which they told us that we have to pay them the adjustment on their salaries which is the adjustment on their vacations, the adjustment on the severance, but not on the deferred payment due to the pandemic. So that’s what we are working on. The council is working together with the Labour Department so that we can come up with an amount that is fair enough. And we need to come to the table with the former employees so that we can make an arrangement with payment.”
