B&B Delivery Truck Targeted by Thieves

Alejandro Cowo

On Saturday evening, yet another Bowen and Bowen delivery truck was targeted by thieves, this time in the Kontiki area of San Ignacio Town. Gilbert Philips and two sidemen were on a route delivery when three masked men armed with a shotgun, a crowbar and a knife approached and robbed them of their personal belongings. The gun-wielding robber got inside the cabin and attempted to open the safe inside the truck. Reports are that several shots were fired in an attempt to open the safe, but he was unsuccessful. The men then escaped into bushes.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“They were approached by three persons armed with firearms and as a result the driver, who was Mister Philips, along with two other workers, were held at gunpoint where they demanded that the safe for the truck be opened. They were unfortunate and it was not opened and as a result their personal belongings were stolen from them. So far, police have detained one person and charges will be levelled on that person sometime during the course of today.”

“This is a Bowen delivery team right sir?”

“Yes.”

“It seems as though their delivery trucks are being targeted. I know of two in recent history sir. What can you tell us about what seems to be an interest in these delivery folks?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Well when it comes to these delivery trucks, they deliver within a wide area in San Ignacio. And probably those persons that are committing these crimes believe that they have large sums of money; probably it is what is driving them to hold up these trucks. But as far as we know those trucks maintain minimum cash; they don’t have cash. Normally it does delivery upon request of one or two previous days.”

Two people have been detained pending investigation into the robbery: a nineteen-year-old from the Hillview area of Santa Elena Town and a twenty-four-year-old resident of George Price Avenue in Santa Elena Town. One other person, who is known to police, is wanted for questioning. News Five understands that several items, including clothing and a crowbar were recovered from the area.
