Teen Laid to Rest; Several Shootings on South Side
There were several other shootings in Belize City, but no one was injured. Shamar Nicholas, the minor who was fatally wounded in a police-involved shooting the previous week, was laid to rest on Saturday in Rancho Dolores, Belize District. Reports to our newsroom are that later that day, shots were fired at his family’s house. There is also information of another shooting in the Kraal Road area of south side Belize City. The gun violence in that area is due to ongoing dispute between three rivalling gangs.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division
“Police responded to several incidents of shots being fired in the Kraal Road area and other areas within Caesar Ridge. However, police checked several places and only, I believe it is the one at Caesar Ridge where police found a few expended shells. But up to now, we cannot say directly if Mister Nicholas’ residence was the target or anybody inside of the house was the target.”

“Does this indicate to officers that there may be retaliation brewing in south side Belize City, particularly in that Kraal Road area where we have seen several persons die over the past two weeks?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“Yes we have information that because of the previous shootings that happen between the two groups there that we expect that something might escalate and police presence is highly visible in that area at this moment. And we expect that somebody will probably carry out some form of shooting some time, but police is always prepared in that area.”
