ComPol on Police Looking the Other Way

Chester Williams

The Commissioner of Police admits a lack of proper police enforcement is a problem when it comes to the public respecting COVID regulations.  He has strong words for those in charge of certain communities.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“We do have significant parts where people are not in compliance. I can tell you, I move around the country. Just last night, I was in Placencia and Seine Bight and I was upset to see that a number of persons continue to move around within those two villages not wearing masks. I passed through Hopkins this morning and I saw the same thing happen. People are not complying. I had to get after the commanders and tell them that they need to ensure that they enforce the provisions of the regulations. People can only move around so freely without mask because the police have been complacent in enforcing the law. If it is that I have to change O.C.s to put people there who are going to ensure that the regulations are enforced, I will do that. I have a duty to this country to ensure that law enforcement represents what the people desire and not what the police think that they should do.”

According to the ComPol, officers have been sent to Spanish Lookout to issue tickets, but some continue to look the other way.
