Customs officer injured when van runs checkpoint
Also on Friday night a customs officer was hit by a van which was trying to evade a customs checkpoint outside Yo Creek Village, Orange Walk. Ceslo Marin was standing near the customs vehicle when a white van drove at high speed through the checkpoint and hit the Customs Department vehicle. The driver jumped out and ran into a canefield. Marin suffered a broken leg and facial injuries. He was taken to the Campestre Hospital in Chetumal where he underwent surgery for his leg. The van, which hit Marin, contained uncustomed Mexican goods including beer.
