UNICEF Country Officer ends term in Belize

Story Picture
Her tour of duty here lasted only three years but UNICEF Country Officer Rosemary Fieth has left a lifetime impression. Fieth will be leaving the country Saturday on a six-month sabbatical at her home in the south of England before taking up her next overseas assignment. She began her career with UNICEF in 1990 and has served in Mozambique, Kenya and Liberia. During Fieth’s tenure in Belize UNICEF raised its profile and with the blessing of successive governments took an aggressive stand to advance the status of children. Included among the organization’s most important accomplishments during that time are measures in support of the Convention on the Rights of the Child such as the nationwide Children’s Elections and the Children’s Summit in Belize City. Fieth’s successor in Belize will be Miguel Ugalde. Ugalde, who will arrive in November, is a Mexican national currently serving as UNICEF Country Officer in Paraguay.
