Bodybuilding contest on Sports Monday with James Adderley

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re in tune for this serving of Sports Monday. The softball playoffs at the Rogers Stadium moved one step closer to the showdown between Lady Rebels and J.L.s.

With a one game lead in this best of three semi-final series, Lady Rebels gives the ball to ace pitcher Sherlene Banner and here she gets out of the first inning unscraped. J.L.s looking to force a decisive game three so they set up behind Sonia Augustine but Barbara Cadle, the first batter, she faces in the bottom of the first lays down a bunt and beats the throw.

With a runner on third Yvette Martinez pops up to Dorla Cattouse and holds the runner on base. Sharmaine Westby becomes the second out after being gunned down by Cattouse but the first run of the ballgame scores on the play. The next batter Ashanti Anderson smacks Augustine hard for this stand up double. Designated hitter Ercelia Francis brings her home with this smack to straight centerfield as the Rebels go up two-zip.

Meanwhile Augustine doesn’t get much help defensively and yes the second baseman should have made this play as Francis comes home giving it to Carla Baptist. Of course not much can be done when the pitcher gets tagged; Diana Jones comes up with this run scoring double. This brings out a lecture from Coach Gretel Lashley but maybe the team wasn’t listening as they botch this easy throw out to give Lady Rebels its fifth run. Augustine finally gets out of the first when she gets Sharmica Reynolds to pop up, but the damage had been done.

In the bottom of the second Yvette Martinez brings home the sixth run despite being out. Lady Rebels goes on to win eight-four and now awaits the winner of the C.T.C./Acros series to emerge.

Turning to the body building scene, the battle for the junior Mr. Belize title finds two athletes locked in a bitter triangle. The judges give second place to Francis Lizama and the big “W” goes to Kenneth Sutherland.

Now meet the big boys. Nelson Nolberto shows mass; the golden boy Rushel Bevans looks for his third straight title; Deon Danderson steps up to the challenge while Dillon Jones is new and improved and the new junior champ throws his hat in the ring. When the official word comes Rushel Bevans has won his third straight Mr. Belize title, Deon Danderson settles for second and Dillon Jones moves on to the podium at third place.

Turning to the football scene, in B.F.L. play over the weekend Yabra Tropical blanked the Belmopan Bandits two-zip at the M.C.C. Grounds, and Sagitun hurt Grigamandala three-zip and Real Verdes mashed Ambergris Turquoise five-two at the cayes on Saturday. While on Sunday Juventus hurt San Pedro Dolphins three-two at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk. The ball game between La Victoria Acros Bombers in Corozal was postponed.

That’s it. Sports Monday wants to wish you the best Independence Day ever. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
