Rachel Heusner’s watercolors at El Cafe
It used to be mainly musical artists who came back to Belize for the September Celebrations, bringing their latest releases, but this year it seems the painters are also making the pilgrimage. Among them is Rachel Heusner Superville. She may live in Trinidad and Tobago, but her heart will always be in Belize. You can see her latest watercolor images of Belize at El Cafe.
The exhibition highlights Rachel Heusner Superville’s works on Belizean local scenes.
Since Superville left Belize about four years ago, this twenty-nine year old Belizean painter has been making yearly trips back home to meet with family, friends and promote her art.

“It’s called a local scene and most of the pieces are based on Belize as much as, everybody says they could be Caribbean, anywhere.”
Q: “I know you live in Tobago, so how did you go about preparing this exhibition?”
Rachel Heusner Superville
“Well the last year I was here, I took a lot of photographs and I try to work as much as I can from those and also use some of the foliage from the area. Basically like skies to get the freshness, I would use those live but basic information like buildings and people I would use the information I have.”
Superville says it is not only the paintings that make a show but the venue needs to be just as creative. This time around the artist has chosen El Cafe at one twenty-two Eve Street to showcase her pieces.

“Because of the freshness of the place. I try to do that with my pieces so that they remain lively and bright and that type of thing. And I think El Cafe is a nice place; it is by the sea and a lot of people are moving about the area and I like that.”
Although Superville leaves the country this weekend, her show runs until the end of the month.
