Taiwan beats B.T.L. Nets

Story Picture
If Wednesday night’s tie between Taiwan and a Belize National Basketball Selection was an exercise in international diplomacy the Thursday night rematch, with B.T.L. Nets as the home team, was not so polite. Although the Nets came out smoking to build an impressive first half lead the determined teamwork and three-point shooting of the visitors eventually proved decisive. In the end it was Taiwan eighty-six to the Nets’ seventy-seven. Keith Acosta was the high scorer with twenty-six points for the Nets with Ian Augustine hitting for nineteen. Taiwan’s Lo Shin Lia was high man for the visitors with twenty-two points. As disappointing as the final score was for the Nets, perhaps the most disturbing feature in both games was the lack of enthusiasm displayed by the Belizean fans. While the Taiwanese were cheering wildly for their team whenever they scored or stole the ball, the same could not be said for the home crowd… whose silence was deafening.
