Prices Up for Goods and Services

Melvin Perez

On the other hand, prices for goods and services have actually seen an increase over the last seven months, when compared to the same time period last year. Belizeans are paying more for transportation, food, housing and personal care, according to S.I.B.

Melvin Perez, Statistician II, S.I.B.

“The cumulative inflation rate for the first seven months of 2021, when compared to the same period in 2020, stood at two point two percent. This means that overall, the regular cost of goods and services increased by two point two percent for the period.  Looking at the cumulative inflation rate at the municipal level, it is clearly seen that the twin town of San Ignacio and Santa Elena experienced the highest increase of cumulative prices, with a cumulative rate of two point six percent. Consumers in this twin town saw greater average of increase in food, surgery fees and personal care products.”
