The Belize Electronic Licenses & Permits System is Launched

Today, at the Bureau of Standards office in Belmopan, there was a soft launch of the Belize Electronic Licenses and Permits System, also known as BELAPS. But what does this do? The modern system integrates multiple agencies in a virtual setting, increasing coherency and improving service delivery to users. It’s a one-stop online service for Belizean citizens and private sectors to apply and pay for their import/export licences and permits from related governmental agencies, including the Forestry Department, the Fisheries Department, the Belize Bureau of Standards and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority.

“Today we bear fruit as we realise the tremendous benefits that e-governance will have on a day to day business processes directly relating to government services. In the face of public outcry, government institutions are often viewed as slow and out of date, mostly due to a myriad of bureaucratic processes that characteristically are considered inefficient, over-lengthy and unnecessarily chaotic. On this occasion, I am pleased to say that our ministry is gradually making every effort to change the hearts and minds of public sentiment as we embark on the use of virtual environments and platforms to improve the delivery of government services.”

“Digital transformation is a journey to profound transformation, striving to optimise processes, deliver value and building the right bridges between system and people. While technology and systems such as BELAPS are drivers to transformation, the end goal is business transformation to improve service delivery and customer experience.”
