Cayo Woman Dies After Being Beaten in the Head

A woman from Cayo has died after being beaten with a metal rod during a frenzied attack at a home in San Ignacio on Monday.   Today, police charged fifty-nine-year-old Mercerdez Pais for the crime of murder after Angela Flores died from her injuries.  Reports are that Pais and his common-law wife Roxana Garcia got into a heated argument and Pais began to beat her in the head.  Emerita Flores and Angela Rodriquez tried to help, but Pais turned on them, hitting both of them as well. “It has been going on for a while now that he comes looking for trouble. He put sugar in her motorcycle gas tank. Not too long ago he put in salt. Since that time he has had a lot of problems with my daughter, and my daughter is always out selling for her little business. When my wife heard my daughter’s scream she went up the stairs and he was running down the stairs and pushed my wife and then proceeded to hit her on the back. When I went up to see what was happening, my wife was already knocked out on the stairs. I asked my daughter where was he. Then I saw him running out with a piece of steel in his hands. With that he hit my daughter, my wife and the kids.   He was a good person, but I don’t know what happened that he changed his behavior. Ever since he finished my daughter’s home, he felt like my daughter was obligated to give him something for it.”
