Curvin Mitchell’s art at Belisle Art Gallery

While the work of veteran Percival Cain goes on display tomorrow, a young artist, twenty-eight year old Curvin Mitchell, is having his first show at the Bliss Institute. News Five stopped by for a look.

“Well I use the material that I can find locally around us like the bamboo, the coconut shell, bone, the cohune, just about everything I can get my hands on or I can find, I just create from it.”
For four years Mitchell has been doing arts and crafts but five months ago he took a break from the coconut shells and picked up a paintbrush.

“I guess it was my time to manifest it, bring it to life, so I just get my stuff together, my materials and I just started painting.
Well I like natural scenes, something that is more cool like, something that I can just go out to the island and paint something that is just natural.”
Mitchell says he was not inspired by anyone nor did he go to school to learn the art but he is simply fascinated by the creations that can be made from local products.
The exhibition at the Belisle Art Gallery ends Friday, September seventeenth.
