Percival Cain exhibits at House of Culture
He never knew his father and has yet to see any of his father’s works of art but Percival Cain knows his father through the gift they share… the ability to capture Belize on canvas. He studied construction through the University of the West Indies Extra Mural Program and has been in the United States for some time but even though his hands have been hardened by construction work, his fingers haven’t lost their touch.
Percival Cain, Artist
“I go and find some nice scenes that I like then I get a sketch of it or go and snap it and I go and paint it.
I like landscapes, mostly landscapes, and seascapes too. Portraits, I scarcely paint portraits; you have to sit for something for that.
I think I’ll do this full time. I’ll do both of them, construction and painting, cause you can’t do this pure full time. You don’t have enough people for you know, supply.”
This week Cain’s pieces from the past and more recent works will be on exhibit at the House of Culture starting from Wednesday September fifteenth to the twenty-fourth from nine to four thirty daily, including the lunch hour. Schools are particularly invited to attend the show. Tonight Mayor David Fonseca will be the guest speaker at the opening. Cain has painted with the late Louis Belisle and has worked with the Belize Post Office on stamp designs.
