Song contest tonight
The September Celebrations continue with the National Song Contest tonight. Brother David and the Tribal Vibes, Punta Rebels, Dell and the Sensations, Kenny Morgan, Roots Reggaematic, World Culture Band, the New Dimensions and Griga Boyz are competing for a one thousand, five hundred dollar prize. The winner will also receive the Nelson Diamond Award. Guest performers include Lord Rhaburn, Tony Wright and the Slamming Bodies Dance Group. Admission is only five dollars. The show at the City Centre starts at seven p.m.
In related news, the Slamming Bodies Dance Group won Sunday night’s National Dance Contest. The four young men, Orson Picart, Cecil Jenkins, Ernie Carballo and Marlon Jenkins received a one thousand dollar prize. Second place went to Total Entertainment, and Secret, a trio of young men, came in third. In the Comedy Contest on Monday night Kenny Morgan won first place.
Basketball fans will get their turn at the City Centre on Wednesday with the arrival of Taiwan’s National Basketball Team. They will play two exhibition games, the first tomorrow night against the Belize National Selection and the second on Thursday night against B.T.L. Nets. Tickets for both games are available at the National Sports Council and Record Shacks One and Two.
