Belizean patriots honored

Tonight Belizean patriots will be honored by a memorial service. Emory King, an organizer of the event, says all Belizeans who contributed in some way to making Belize what it is will be given a special tribute.
Emory King, Historian
“The Father of our Country, the Right Honorable George Price instituted the tribute to Belizean patriots back in the sixties and have held it almost every year since then. It’s part of our National Day celebrations leading up to Independence.
And remembering the people who have gone before and have done good things for this country is a very good idea and having a semi-religious service, memorializes these people and makes us think and remember the good things that have happened in the past.”
Guest speakers for tonight’s event will be Charles Bartlett Hyde former postmaster general and former speaker of the house and Myrtle Palacio, head of the Elections and Boundaries Commission. The Belize Choral Society and a steel band will provide entertainment. The public is invited to the event which sets to take place tonight at eight at the courthouse.
