Shooting spree leaves fisherman dead
Police have detained a sixteen-year-old and are looking for another person in connection with another shooting on Saturday night. According to the police two young men stopped in front of forty East Canal and started shooting at the house. As a result, twenty-one year old Paul Welsh was shot under his left arm. However, the shooting did not stop there, police say the men then rode towards the fish market by the Vernon Street Bridge and once again opened fire. There, the fishermen who were present either took cover or jumped into the canal. But Paul Garbutt a twenty year old fisherman who was lying under one of the counters received a gunshot to his forehead. Garbutt was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he later died on Sunday, September twelfth. Police suspect the shooting spree was in retaliation to the death of Levan Hines who was shot on Kraal Road on the night of September tenth. That incident is believed to have involved a dispute over a tape recorder.
