Miss Orange Walk new Queen of the Bay

Miss Orange Walk is the new Queen of the Bay 1999-2000. Samantha Carlos, who was accompanied at the City Center on Friday night by the Central Drum Corps of Orange Walk as well as a number of supportive fans, won after stiff competition from seven young ladies from all over Belize. Samantha is a student at St. John’s Sixth Form. News Five spoke with her this evening about the support she received during the contest and her future plans.

“I’m excited and I’m honored to be an ambassador of this beautiful jewel.”
Q: “You really had the crowd behind you all through the contest. How did they make you feel?”

“They made me feel confident. I mean, to have support like that out there, I mean, you must know how much your town loves you.”
Q: “What are you looking forward to this year?”
Samantha Carlos
“I am looking forward to working with society, with women. I mean nowadays I see women on the streets being battered and thing and I just want to be somebody that could change that and as well with education with the children. I want to have an education, be off the streets, doing something constructive.”
As the Queen of the Bay, Samantha will follow tradition by attending the official ceremonies of the September Celebrations. She is seventeen.
