September Celebrations get underway this weekend
In addition to the Queen of the Bay Pageant tonight, there are several other September activities this weekend and early next week that you may want to catch in Belize City. On Saturday, besides the King and Queen Competition, St. John’s Cathedral is having its popular Food Fair and for sports enthusiasts it’s the Santino’s Cycling Criterium on the Western Highway. Cycling continues on Sunday in Belize City with the Criterium on Princess Margaret Drive. On Monday, the nation’s best storytellers will compete in a contest at the Bliss Institute. If it’s music you’re after the Steel Pan Jamboree takes place in the Constitution Park. Contests continue on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with the Poetry and Dance Competitions. Carnival groups get in the mood with mas camps on the south and northsides. As you can see, there’s no excuse for you not to get in the mood. Let’s just hope Mother Nature doesn’t try to ruin the fun with more heavy downpours. We’ll have more on next week’s celebrations in Monday’s newscast.
