B.E.L. workers paint St. John Vianney School

School children all over the country are preparing to go back to school and their teachers are working hard to get everything ready for their return. One Belize City school has enlisted the help of the Belize Electricity Board, but not to rewire the school, to paint it. B.E.L. has not only donated forty gallons of colorful paint, but staff members have volunteered to help with the actual painting. Principal of St. John Vianney School Anita Wade says she is pleased at the community spirit displayed by B.E.L.

“Every year we try to make classrooms attractive and pleasing for the return of students and we usually do it by ourselves every year. This year I decided that maybe the private sector would help and I just went to B.E.L. and they responded positively.”

“This event is a special one for us because for the first time we have decided to treat it a little bit different and we have concentrated on bringing out some employees to work alongside with the parents and teachers to bring together and conclude this project which is to paint twenty classrooms for the returning of six hundred and fifty students. We hope it will be a pleasing sight for them since we know that a more attractive and cleaner environment is conducive to learning.”

“Most of the classrooms will be painted by parents, teachers, past students coming in from last year’s standard six and B.E.L. workers and so it’s a big community effort.”

The total value of the paint, equipment and donated labor is one thousand dollars. St. John Vianney re-opens on Monday.
