Teen Perishes in Accident in the North
There was also a loss of life reported in the north on Sunday evening. Just after five p.m., seventeen-year-old Luis Martinez, a construction worker of August Pine Ridge Village in the Orange Walk District perished in a road traffic accident in the village. Sixty-three-year-old Eustaguio Sanchez was behind the wheel of his pickup on the main road in the village when a motorcycle driven at the time by Martinez collided into the right front fender and front passenger door of the pickup. Martinez died on the spot. Communications Director, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood of the Belize Police Department shared details.

“Seventeen-year-old Luis Martinez was driving a motorbike and sixty-three-year-old Pastor Sanchez who did cooperate with the police and took them to the scene where this accident occurred. He claimed that Martinez was taking a left turn on his motorbike and collided into the right front fender of his vehicle causing his injury. Martinez was transported to the northern regional hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer. The police did issue a notice of intended prosecution and he fully cooperated with the police, as I indicated; so the process is being followed.”
