Did Woman Jump from Truck to her Death in Corozal?

Fitzroy Yearwood

There was another loss of life on Independence Day, but up north in Corozal. Thirty-three-year-old Constancia Cano was found dead between miles seventy-three and seventy-four on the Philip Goldson Highway near Louisville Village. Constancia was reportedly travelling home from Concepcion Village to Santa Clara in a Dodge pickup driven at the time by Fabio Cano when, according to Fabio, she jumped from the pickup to her death. The incident is under investigation because there is a report that the incident happened around six-thirty p.m., but was not reported to police until almost three hours later, around nine-thirty. Relatives also say that the couple was having domestic issues. Today, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood says that statements are being recorded.

“Upon arrival on the scene, they saw a red Dodge pickup and about ten feet off the highway; they saw the motionless body of Constancia Cano, thirty-three-year-old whose address is of Santa Clara Village. The initial investigation revealed that Fabio Cano, fifty-four years cane farmer of Concepcion Village, Corozal District was driving his red Dodge pickup truck when he alleged that Constancia opened the door and alighted the vehicle while the vehicle was still in motion. Investigators have been on that scene gathering statements and we will leave it as that for now because there were only two people travelling in that vehicle at the time and one cannot answer for herself so we will allow the investigators time to gather evidence and see what will take place at the end of the investigation.”

“Is Mister Cano in police custody?”

“Well I don’t know if he has since been released but I know initially he was detained for questioning and also to acquire stamen from him.”
