2-year-old drowns in pit latrine
A two-year-old boy drowned in Punta Gorda over the weekend after falling into a pit latrine. Nelia Pop told police around five p.m. on Saturday, August twenty-eighth she was inside the house when she heard splashing outside. She went into the latrine ten feet from the house and saw her small son, Felipe Shol struggling in the pit. She tried to pull him out but he disappeared under the water. Police were called and managed to retrieve the body but the child was already dead.
Also on Saturday, the body of a Honduran labourer from Cow Pen in the Stann Creek District was found in the Swasey River. Thirty-six year old Noe Salvador Muria Guevara had been swimming in the river behind Delta Farm on Friday went he went underwater and failed to resurface. His companion Angel Garcia Maldonado reported the incident to police.
