Garifuna artists raise funds for Gabaga

Garifuna artists will gather at Dangriga’s Why-Not Island for a benefit concert for legendary Garifuna musician and composer, Bernard Maxwell Williams, better known a “Gabaga.” The Gabaga Relief Fair is in appreciation for his lifetime contribution to Belizean music and is intended to raise money to provide him with food, shelter and medical care. Participating artists include Punta Rebels, Bredda David Obi, International Sound Boys, Griga Boys, the Old House Crew, and the Turtle Shell Band as well as a number of dance groups. Activities begin Saturday at nine. Gabaga was born in 1920 in Newtown Commerce Bight, Stann Creek District. He composed more than fifty songs.
