Poets invited to enter September contest
Need an extra thousand dollars? Well if you write poetry and aren’t afraid to get up on stage then the first annual National Poetry Contest might be one way of getting that extra cash. Glenn Tillett from the National September Celebrations Committee told News Five why the contest was organized and why it is being held in honor of the late Justice George Singh.
Glenn Tillett, National September Celebrations Committee
“We chose Mr. Singh as such because he was a poet of some notes and a lot of people don’t know it. But he won several of these poetry contests back in the old days, writing under pseudonyms.”
Q: “What is the format for the poems? Do they need to be of cultural emphasis or can they be on anything?”
Glenn Tillett
“We want that the entries be on the theme, “Celebrate Belize” and that the poems be patriotic and nationalistic. But most of all we want them to be entertaining and informative.”
If you have an informative and entertaining poem you would like to submit, contact the National September Celebrations Committee at the Bliss Institute. The winner of the poetry contest will also receive the George Singh Award. The committee is also organizing an Edison Seferino Coleman comedy contest and a story telling contest in honor of George McKesey.
