Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police.

“We are still investigating. We have enough where we have reached the point to charge. But, while we have the matter before the court there are certain things we still need to do, including requesting assistance from the FBI, through the US Embassy, to enhance certain video footages for us.”

Gillett was handed his charge for murder just before three p.m. this evening, while being arraigned for a separate, aggravated assault charge. According to Commissioner Williams, Gillett was swabbed before he was taken to court, but when it was later confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19, his arraignment had to be postponed until he recovers from the virus. However, despite his positive status, Gillett was transported in the back of a police van along with seven men. He was taken to the Belize Central Prison, Kolbe Foundation where he will be placed on isolation.
