No evidence, four suspects released in teen killing
In more bad luck for police, this afternoon, Melvin Young, Warren Cabral and Philip Meighan, all charged with murder and conspiracy in the death of thirteen year old Samantha Gordon were all released and their charges dropped. According to Lutchman Sooknandan, Attorney for Melvin Young, the police did not have any evidence against his client and were in fact on a wild goose chase.
Lutchman, Sooknandan, Attorney for Melvin Young
“It is quite obvious from a perusal of the testimony or the statement gathered by the police, and I would like to say that they have gathered testimony or statements from 30 witnesses and there is not a scintilla of evidence to incriminate my client in the commission of this serious offense of murder against Samantha Gordon. The noble thing in this case is that after the perusal of the file by the D.P.P., it is incumbent on him to issue a memorandum to withdraw charges based on lack of evidence and Mr. Lucas has quite rightly done so.
There is absolutely nothing in this file to incriminate Melvin Young and others in this. They seem to be on a wild goose chase and they seemed not to know what they were looking for. I do not think that enough and proper investigation is being launched into these matters.”
But while Young, Cabral and Meighan are back home, Kelvin Francis who was also charged with Gordon’s murder remains behind bars. Francis has been charged for another murder at a Belize City gas station earlier this year.
