$5 million for regional language center
While some Corozalenos are facing flooding from heavy rains, Cabinet this week continued its review of the nation’s hurricane shelters. The status of contracts for the retrofitting of shelters countrywide and the cost of the work were reviewed. One hundred shelters will have to be upgraded. Minister of Latin American Affairs Florencio Marin reported on a meeting of the Republic of China-Central American Mixed Commission in Costa Rica. 21 million dollars in funding has been approved for 10 projects in the region, three of which are of particular interest to Belize. 5 million dollars has been allocated for the completion of a regional language center in Belmopan, 6 million U.S. will be shared among 6 Central American countries for trade, investment and tourist promotion, and ten million is being provided for the modernization of the foreign ministries. A report was also given on the fourth Western Hemispheric Energy Minister’s Meeting in Louisiana, U.S.A. in July.
