CFAL Issues Scholarships to Primary & High School Students

Today the Child First and Last Organization, better known as CFAL, awarded scholarships for primary and high schools in Belize and Cayo Districts. Twelve primary schoolers from Calvary Temple and Salvation Army Primary Schools were lucky recipients. Four high school scholarships were also awarded. The scholarships were made possible through partnership with Belize Electricity Limited and donors from Belize and overseas. A brief ceremony was held this morning at the Radisson and News Five was there.

“We have been fortunate, we have people who have supported us. For example, B.E.L. is sponsoring two of the scholarships we are offering today and this is done through the Ariel Rosado Foundation. Janet Don’t Cry Scholarship and the Debbie Gillett Scholarship. So there will be four scholarships for high school this morning.”

“It means a lot for them because it gives them an opportunity to further their education and expand their horizons. In this pandemic time, it’s very important that we know that we are stepping in a very tangible situation and that we need to be well-supported, especially financially. We have a selection process that we consider and everybody does a vote and then we interview the parents and the students and then they are selected.”

“This is very timely. I love the slogan, Child First and Last and I believe that at this time where parents are out of jobs and they have been coming into the office to find out about their school fees. But we know that they are not able to provide financially the fees for their children. So this is a very timely donation to the children who will benefit from this.”
