Benefit held for Dr. Castillo

Story Picture
This Thursday an Indian cultural night will be held at Planet Hollywood. The event is not just a celebration of Indian music and food, but a fundraiser to help Dr. Greg Castillo and his family. In March this popular internist and the Chief of Medicine at the K.H.M.H. was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. His pancreas was so severely damaged he almost died and he had to undergo four operations in the United States. He is home now recovering, but the ordeal has been terrible for the entire family, and the medical bills are more than they can bear alone.

Sunita Castillo, Daughter

“Right now he is in the recovering stage; he is at home

with us right now. He has been there… He had a relapse so he had to go back for two weeks while I was here and since then he has been back recovering and thank God he is doing a lot better now but he won’t be able to go back to work for at least another six months, maybe more but we are not sure yet.”

Q: “This illness has certainly put a strain on the family both emotionally and financially?”

Sunita Castillo

“Oh definitely. My father has always been a very hardworking person and his job meant so much to him and to be bedridden like this, has surely been taking a toll on him. I think he realizes that he must take this time to recover and it is going to be a healing process for him and for us as well. But what is our burden right now is the cost of our medical bills. It is almost a quarter of a million dollars. We are appealing to you all out there to help us as much as possible.”

Sunita says the family would like to thank all those individuals and organizations who contributed towards Dr. Castillo’s recovery. The Indian cultural night this Thursday includes entertainment, modeling, a Chinese auction, and a buffet of twelve different Indian dishes. If you would like to attend the event, you are asked to make a contribution of fifty dollars. Tickets are available at B.T.L. through Indra Castillo.
