Prisoners escape during basketball game
Two prison inmates took advantage of an outing to Belize City to escape. On Saturday night Gilbert Humphrey and Clarence Gentle who play on the prison basketball team were with the group taken to the Lake Independence Basketball Court for a game. However, sometime between nine fifty and ten thirty, the duo decided to make a run for it. Gentle was serving a five-year sentence for attempted robbery and aggravated assault. Humphrey was serving a five-year sentence for attempted burglary and damage to property. Keith Hamilton, Superintendent of Prisons says they expect to have the men back in custody soon. After Humphrey and Gentle are safely behind bars, the men will lose all their privileges. Hamilton says the department, in its effort to try and rehabilitate prisoners, encourages them to get involved in sports and community outreach programs. This is the first time since he has taken over that any of the prisoners brought into the city have escaped.
