Small hotels get resource center

The Belize Tourism Board has a number of programs underway as part of the OAS funded Small Hotel Assistance Project and the Tourism, Attitudes and Awareness Project. Today during a ceremony at B.T.I.A., the Belize Hotel Association received computer equipment for a Technological Centre to provide Internet access to small hotel owners.
Teresa Parkey, President, Belize Hotel Association
“The center, we will be managing it here in the Belize Hotel Association office at number 10 Park Street. What we are going to be doing is providing Internet access for small hoteliers who don’t have access independently. As well, one of the things that we will be offering there is a resource site called the Caribbean Inn Keeper dot com and this will act not only from a marketing stand point to give resources, but also from the supply stand point to access equipment, supplies and things like that especially the small hotelier may not necessarily know where to look for.”
Mark Espat, Minister of Tourism
“Be it in the area of marketing or training or Internet access, it is particularly beneficial to Belize given that the average hotel size in Belize is eleven rooms. So the majority of our hotels fall in this category and will require the support of the program.”
The computer equipment is valued at twenty five thousand U.S. dollars.
