PGIA Controllers Share Their Stories on Air Traffic Controllers Day
International Air Traffic Controllers Day is celebrated annually on October twentieth. Although they are not often seen by the public, they are there to ensure your safe departure from the PGIA and safe landing when returning home. Here is a clip from the Ministry of Civil Aviation highlighting the men and women behind this profession in Belize.

October 20th is set aside every year to celebrate the important work of the men and women we fondly refer to as ATCs. As far as our Ministry is concerned, ATCs must be celebrated every day, with every single take off and landings that unites loved ones, bussiness partners, and takes us safely to our desired destinations, for recreation, business or other personal matters.”

“My dad was a traffic controller. On the weekends I used to come up with him. I was just fascinated. I was fascinating to see what they do. I would love to see what they do and I got interested. I knew there and then that is what I wanted to be.”

“First started by seeing a Job vacancy in the news paper, I applied, got in. Really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. When I first came here, everything was new. I didn’t know what to expect. The information was like starting all over. But I ended liking the job.”
Jevon Parham
“I have been an Air Traffic Controller since the sixteenth of August, 2017. So I am now qualified as an Airdrum controller for couriers. But I have been hired by the Department from 2015. So I have six years already working in the Department. I come from all the way from the south of the country, from the beautiful Stann Creek District. I am the first Air Traffic Controller from the south, so I am proud to be here.”
